About

"Tradition is not

the worship of ashes but the preservation of fire."

At White Oak Grove, a 180-year tradition of worship has been reborn. Energized by families from wide-ranging backgrounds, the newly formed community hearkens back to an earlier era in quest of a biblical worship and community life--simple and refreshing.

Seekers and seasoned Christians alike gather each week to explore the rich truths of the historic Christian faith through Bible study and worship and to share in a common meal and thoughtful conversation.

"And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of break, and in prayers."

Acts 2.42

Visit

"...the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it"

Isaiah 2.2

In our setting, worship music is entirely participatory and unaccompanied. Theologically rich, full-throated, four-part singing brings gladness to the heart and symbolically shows the church in harmony with Christ in all that is true, good, and beautiful. Expository messages from bi-vocational elders are delivered in a worshipful spirit from both heart and head reflecting the combined force of spirit and truth known through Scripture. Entire families worship together in an age-integrated setting.

As a truly "other-worldly" endeavor, the mystery of faith is revered through song, prayer, Word, and sacrament.

"And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together . . . "

Hebrews 10.24-25

Come & See

"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."

Matthew 11.28

Jesus' invitation is also ours to you. As times grow darker, it becomes increasingly necessary for believers to link arms and find strength in the Lord through a community of fellowship. We look forward to meeting you and engaging in conversation to discern whether the White Oak Grove Community is a fit for you and your family.

We are located at 615 White Oak Grove Road between the towns of Floyd and Riner.

Established in 1845, White Oak Grove Church closed in 1996. Since that time, the simple church building and adjacent cemetery have been maintained by a board of trustees. In the fall of 2021, interest began to develop in re-launching the church in the historic Primitive, or Old School Baptist tradition, and Bible studies began in February 2022. Worship, study, and fellowship experiences have continued to grow with approximately ten local families currently gathering each week.
